Sensual, witty, and at times deeply moving, Cherry Radford's first novel is a sweeping tour-de-force.
About Me
I was always going to be an author when I grew up – but growing up took one heck
of a time.
Meanwhile I learnt the piano and flute, went to Trinity College of Music, and taught piano at White Lodge, the Royal Ballet Junior School. I also played keyboards in a band and married the singer-songwriter.
Then for some reason I went back to studying and became an optometrist, did a PhD, and worked at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital as a clinician and researcher. The boys came along, we moved to countryside near Brighton, and life was busy and complete.
Well, not quite. I found I was missing all that ballet I used to go to when I was teaching, and started going to an increasing number of shows. Reading about it. Doing a few dance classes. Frankly, combined with the amount of time I was spending on my congenital hispanophilia (Spanish lessons, trips etc.), it was becoming a problem. Then one evening I was coming back home in the train after a particularly intoxicating ballet and realised that I could one day find myself sitting there with a Royal Ballet dancer on his way to Gatwick. And thought how if I were younger and less content, and a bit on the edge, perhaps such an encounter could lead to an obsession that would change my life... I mulled this over for a couple of months then started writing MEN DANCING.
I’ve finished a second novel but I’ll be tinkering with it for a while. If you’ve enjoyed the way my passions for dance, music and Spanish have influenced MEN DANCING, you won’t be disappointed by FLAMENCO BABY and its planned sequel!
Bailamos!
